The programme features Ludwig van Beethoven’s “String Trio in G major, Op. 9, No. 1,” a work that exemplifies classical mastery. Also highlighted is Gustav Holst’s “Sextet in E minor,” which echoes the influence of 19th-century chamber music giants like Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Brahms, particularly noted in its creatively used pizzicato strings in the theme and variations of its final movement.

Antonín Dvořák in the USA

Join us for an exceptional concert featuring a lineup of internationally acclaimed musicians, including New York sensation Alexi Kenney, celebrated by The New York Times for his unparalleled musical approach. Collaborating with him are the stellar violinists Tim Crawford and Maja Horvat, violists Michel Camille and Isidora Timotijevic, cellists Pau Codina and Eddie Pogossian, double bassist Kristina Edin, and the international Esbjerg Ensemble’s wind quintet.

During his stay in America from 1892 to 1895, Antonín Dvořák absorbed the country’s musical diversity, influenced by Native American music and African American spirituals. While based in New York and Iowa, he composed notable works like the “New World Symphony,” which reflect both American cultural motifs and his Czech roots. This period was pivotal in blending American elements with his romantic style, as is so well demonstrated in his American Quintet.

The concert opens with Richard Strauss’s “Capriccio, String Sextet, Op. 85,” a piece brimming with lyrical richness and serving as the prelude to his final opera. Join us in Esbjerg for an exceptional concert featuring a lineup of internationally acclaimed musicians, including New York’s Alexi Kenney, celebrated by The New York Times for his unparalleled musical approach. The programme highlights Dvorak’s emotive works and Louise Farrenc’s renowned Nonet. Farrenc, a pivotal composer and feminist pioneer, successfully campaigned for equal pay at the Paris Conservatory after the premiere of her Nonet, promoting gender equality in the century before France’s legal advancements. Also featured are compositions by Roxana Panufnik, one of Britain’s most versatile and beloved composers.

The programme concludes with Brahms’s String Sextet in G, immersing the audience in the lush, romantic textures for which Brahms is celebrated. This selection promises an evening filled with both beauty and technical prowess, showcasing the skills of our world-class ensemble.

Tonight’s concert brings together a constellation of world-class musicians, highly sought after on the international stage. Featuring Maria Wloszczowska, Pablo Hernán Benedí, and Tim Crawford on violin; Michel Camille and Hélène Clément on viola; and Pau Codina and Eddie Pogossian on cello, the evening promises an unparalleled experience.

The programme opens with Mozart’s String Quintet No. 4 in G minor, K. 516, one of his most profound works. The concert will continue with Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, a piece known for its innovative interplay between the two instruments and infused with the spirit of Les Apaches, a group of artists and writers co-founded by Ravel who embraced art contrary to conservative tastes. The evening concludes with Korngold’s lush, romantically styled Sextet for Strings in D Major, Op. 10, a foretaste of his later success in Hollywood.
